I have to post this idea because I am usually gleaning from everyone else and I am so excited that I actually came up with something myself! We played a review game today and I put a poster on the board that said "Cookin' up songs for the program" The poster board had a recipe for brownies, but I just listed the ingredients (i.e. 1/2 cup oil, 3/4 cup white sugar). The kids did not know what the recipe was for. Each ingredient represented a song that we have learned so far this year and I threw in two father's day songs so we did seven songs. With the pianist I assigned one song for each ingredient. ( So, for oil the song was If I listen with my Heart). But we played name that tune. So she played the first three notes. If the kids couldn't figure out what song it was the pianist kept playing until someone could guess it. That child that guessed the song got to pour the oil in a bowl after we sang it all the way though. (For fun we tried singing all the songs without any posters just to see what we really knew and what we needed more work on.) As we added more ingredients, I would call up another child to stir. Once we were done. I talked to the kids about how each ingredient added together makes a recipe and each song we sing will combine in the program. I told the children how the spirit always enters the room when they sing and during the program their singing it like sharing "desert" with the congregation, but what they are really sharing is their testimonies through song. Then I poured the batter on a baking sheet and put it in the oven. (a cardboard box brought from home. The kids could only see the back of it. Earlier I had put in another pan of cooked brownies cut in small bite size squares. We have a moment of silence. (you could have heard a pin drop) Then i pretended that the buzzer rang and the brownies were done. I pulled out the pan of cooked brownies and the children were so excited. They all got to take a little piece on their way out. I know this will bring up the whole food in primary issue. We never had food in primary and this was something so little that the presidency and I didnt' have a problem with it. Five kids came up and told me that was the most fun they have ever had in singing time. Just an idea :) --- On Sun, 5/29/11, Beth Liechty <bethliechty6@yahoo.com> wrote:
