Building off a recent post which noted that the song Praise to the Man fits Joseph Smith's energetic, fun personality, I turned this hymn into a wiggle song for my primary by having them stand and try to do the rhythm with their feet. First we just marched together. Then I showed them the "hop-hop" rhythm (eighth notes), and then the dotted rhythm which I just called "dun-ta". After practicing each rhythm without accompaniment, we tried to do the rhythm of Praise to the Man. Not many of them could actually do it, but that wasn't the point! (The best performer was a seven year old boy who happens to be very good at "the reject" dance move.) It was a fun challenge and we'll keep practicing for a few minutes each week when they need to stand and move. I had to step out of my high-heeled sandals to do this, of course!
