0 [primusic] Re: Miscellaneous Ideas

I love all of these ideas. Especially scooping the cotton balls with a spoon while the primary sings. I'll definitely be using that one! Thanks for sharing!

Just traced three different shaped bowls onto the posterboard, cut them out, then took the contact paper and put it over all of the holes. So, when I showed it to the kids the sticky side of the contact paper was sticking out. I drew some stick arms on, taped a hat on top, cut out eyes, nose, mouth and a couple of buttons out of construction paper and stuck them onto the contact paper. So, I had my snowman on the blackboard and said it had been so hot outside and we needed to cool down. Hence, the snowman. I gave each teacher a bag filled with cotton balls. As we sang each song the teachers were to watch their class and hand out a cotton ball to the kids when they were singing their best and participating. When the kids got the cotton balls they could walk reverently to the front and put it on the snowman. I let them walk up during the songs as they got the cotton ball. They assured me they were big enough to handle this, plus it saved time so I didn't have to wait forever in between songs. The kids thoroughly enjoyed this and it was a very enjoyable singing time for me too. Plus, we got through pretty much all the program songs.

If the class scored high enough (whatever you deem high enough) then the class earned a part to make their snowman. They tried to earn three black dots for the buttons and two rolls of toilet paper. At the end (make sure you save time for this), I let them use their supplies to make their teacher into a snowman. They wrapped the toilet paper around, then taped on the black dots. It was fun and the Primary president came in and took lots of pictures! :)

They are already painted and decorated and they cost about $.70/each. I bought as many as I could think of a way to sing that matched the cutout. So, I have a robot girl - girls only; robot boy - boys only; police car - sing it fast; frog - sing it staccatto; bunny - sing softly; lion - sing loud; giraffe - stand up straight and tall (sometimes I let them stand on the chairs for this one); rocket ship - start song crouching down and singing soft, each phrase you stand up a little more and sing louder until you are standing straight and singing LOUD; owl - "ooooh" the song; hummingbird - hum the song, facing backwards if you want; elephant - plug your nose and sing; octopus - wave your arms like an octopus and sing. I think there are a couple more, but can't think of them right now. It's fun, easy and the kids enjoy it. Sometimes I just use this with the opening song just to get them a little more interested in singing with me.

You blindfold a person, have them sit on the floor, give them a big spoon, put a bowl in front of them, spread cottonballs on the floor around them. The game is to time them to see how many cottonballs they can get in the bowl before the timer runs out. I figured you could change this for Primary. You could have one kid do it up front while everyone sings the song. Or divide the room in half, have one kid for each side of the room come up and play it while you sing. Then repeat the game and sing the song again. An easy way to sing a song over and over!
