I agree and try to learn all of the verses each month to the Primary songs, usually not all the verses to the hymns, but yes to all of the Primary songs!  :-)

I did a fun little game with the Junior Primary today.  We have the big crazy Primary hat, and today we sang the last verse of I Hear the Saviour's Voice over and over...when the "best" class won the hat for their the teacher to wear, we sang it again...another class could do better and take it from the head of the previous classes teacher...all in all it was great...the classes all wanted to win the hat for their teacher to wear!  Even the class whose regular teacher wasn't there! lol

It was a fun day...

I also had difficulty a couple of weeks ago with no one paying attention or singing. I talked to the Primary President, and she suggested it was probably due to school being out and the children having less structure every day. I think that is probably true. I ended up switching gears from what I had planned and improvised to something that the kids could do with their hands that would keep their attention.

With Praise to the Man, I taught a version of sign language, and the kids have learned both verses better than I thought. In fact, last Sunday, the rest hymn was Praise to the Man, and all over the chapel I saw little hands moving and doing the signs. It was very special for me to see the hard work coming together, and that they remembered it outside of Primary and without any instruction.

I have the opposite feeling about learning the verses. I want to learn and teach ALL verses possible because some of them teach crucial doctrines that are totally missed if not taught. Some children don't even know that there are more verses to some of the primary songs. Think about I Love to See the Temple. It isn't until the second verse that the children commit ("I'll go...I'll covenant....I'll promise").

I am glad we are through learning almost all of our program songs so much of the summer can be spent in review.

Good luck!
