0 [primusic] Re: Program songs reveiw-need ideas

Thanks for starting this thread.
I'd LOVE to see ideas all in one place to save some energy looking at multiple sites for a good idea.

Tomorrow I will do someting very simple since our program is in Sept. & I just got home from 2 weeks out of town:

Let's Go Fly A Kite

Made a summer themed poster from blue poster board. Used my Silhouette cutter (you could easily freehand) to cut  out a tree, grass, butterfly, clouds, sun, boy with kite string reel, &  7 kites. (arrange on your poster... but don't glue down the kites)

(simplify by getting to church a little early and drawing a scene on the chalkboard with colored chalk. Cut diamonds out of construction paper for your kites and put a little magnet strip on the back so it stays on the chalkboard)

Prep: Write program song titles on the kites and hide them in the primary room in plain site.

Intro: Sing, Oh' What Do You Do in the Summertime?

(I will tell them I missed them while on vacation, but had a great time flying kites with my kids)

"I Fly Kites at the Beach in the Summer Time"... "Unfortunately it was really windy yesterday and when I was driving home my kites flew out the window. I thought they were lost till I got here today, but I think they blew into the primary room.  Can you help me look for them?" Invite reverent children to find your kites - with program songs written on them.

As you sing the song allow that child to think of their favorite summer activity to share when the song is complete.

Depending on how they sang, remembered the words etc. "fly" the kite to the poster and place it above the clouds if perfect, mid-level if it was just ok, or in the grass if they couldn't remember the words etc.  (then you will easily see which songs need reviewing in the coming weeks)

I plan to bring the whole activity back in a few weeks to see how they have improved. Let the kids move the kites higher until they are all "flyin' high".  Less prep that way for a repeat activity.

EXTRAS:  Tape a "Kite" to a Paint stick and let the children take turns leading the music as they fly their kite.

O:)

I have found some really cute ideas on some blogs that are general review along with a package with colored ribbons so I may try to include that but I would really like to do something that ties into the theme of "I Know the Scriptures are True". If someone has an idea I would love to hear it. If not I will see what inspiration I can get the next few days and share it with all of you.
