Today in senior primary we sang through the song TLGMAT a couple of times, and then played beat vs. rhythm I asked them if they knew what the difference was between the two, and then explained or expanded on their answers.
I went through and we did the basic 4/4 beat ~ pat (on our thighs) pat clap clap and sang it through once.
Then I went stomp, pat, clap, snap sang it through once doing that.
Then we did the rythm and sang that through once
Then I divided the group and has someone in the presidency help me. We divided down the middle and half did the beat while we sang through the song and 1/2 did the rhythm and then we switched.
The kids loved it and it was a good challenge for them to sing and clap the rhythm. They all decided the beat was easier to maintain and sing with. It was a good way to sing the song several times through and not really realize how many times you are singing.
When we did the beat we skipped the words The and If and started on the down beat on the words Lord and I.
but obviously when we did rhythm we clapped those eighth notes. My daughter is still singing it after being home for an hour, and is complaining that it's stuck in her head!
