We did a back to school review yesterday. I used Billy Bubblegum (sugardoodle idea) and had him be a part of our "class". He'd blow a bubble as the kids sang the songs more program ready. This helped the kids sing well.
For the back to school part- I had 8 "subjects" plus a field trip. They were:
Anatomy- If I Listen with my Heart
Math- I Will Follow God's Plan
Geography- We'll Bring the World His Truth
Health- The Lord Gave me a Temple
History- Praise to the Man
Recess- I'm Trying to be Like Jesus
Reading- Scripture Power
PE- Stand for the Right
Field Trip- I Love to see the Temple
I wrote the subjects up on the board leaving room for a grade next to each subject.
I had two adults (presidency members in jr and teachers in sr) be the "teachers" and give the kids a grade on how well they sang. Billy definitely helped them be motivated while singing because they liked watching his bubble grow. I left jr. primary's grades up and sr. had fun trying to do better.
To pick the kids I got a pencil for each of them and put dots on the eraser of 9 pencils for each singing time. I put the pencils in a mug eraser side down. I had the exact number I needed for each group. I let the kids pick a pencil from the mug and when a kid got one with a dot we stopped and I let them pick a subject to sing. In Sr. primary they would guess which song it was before we sang.
All these ideas are variations from ideas from the sugardoodle site. We were able to get through all 9 songs which is good- our program is on the 18th of September.
