0 [primusic] Re: Kids not motivated

I am fairly new to this calling so I am not speaking from years of experience like many on here, BUT...

I tell the whole Primary that I am a "choir" singer, not a soloist. I explain that I love to be part of a team and share my testimony through song. Then I tell them how silly I feel when I am singing by myself (especially when I am a female tenor and these songs are SKY high!!) Then instead of "leading" in front like most, I walk through the primary and sing WITH them, occasionally touching a child on the shoulder, smiling or giving a thumbs up, or putting my hand to my ear.

I often take a child that knows the song very well, or is very out-going and have them "lead" while I wander.

One week I pre-arranged with a teacher for him to not sing, when I "caught" him I took him by the hand and had him sing a "solo" with me, occasionally now I pull kids up, and have them lead or at least sing up front with me:) the older boys know I will pull them up to so you almost never see them not singing, and many of the children will raise their hands and ask if they can lead, it is not "punishment."

Hope that helps. Nothing brings joy, and the spirit to life more than worship through song!

But it seems as if the older kids think they're too cool to sing and then the younger children want to follow the example of the older children, so they don't sing either.

I stopped the music and commented on it and tried to get them to sing. When the music started again, they still didn't sing, AT ALL! I was so shocked and a little hurt. I know that they know the song. They just plain didn't want to sing and I didn't know what I was doing wrong.
