0 Re: [primusic] Re: Fun ideas for the CSMP practices

I totally agree.  This program will be my 5th and hopefully I can do 5 more before I am released.  haha!!
I especially agree what she just mentioned about the program not being the important thing.  We put way too much emphasis on "The Program"  sometimes and the important thing is as she said... instilling the message and spirit of each song into these little one's hearts.

For the program you will always get the little ones picking their nose, waving, etc etc.  that is what makes this program the favorite meeting of the year.  I am sure our Savior smiles a lot this time of year.
i remember one sister posting a few years ago that as she stood up to lead the first song, when she raised her hands to start the kids she hit the music stand and all her papers went flying.  She had her music in the right order etc and it was all mixed up.....  guess what?  The program went fine.  It really wasn't the end of the world... altho I a sure it seemed that way to her for a while.
It doesn't matter how the practices go...  It is the Spirit that makes the meeting successful.  If the children have a testimony about the songs and they have felt the spirit and you have pointed out to them several times what they are feeling is the spirit..... it will be fine.

Don't stress it.  I am sure you will be getting lots of tips from the ones here in the group on how to help make this a pleasant experience.  :-)
Good luck and just enjoy the ride.
J

We have done the helium balloon, and the pizza (the month before they earned "toppings" for their pizza by passing off the song), and ice cream (same idea). A few other things I've done that has helped a program run smoothly is: Have multiple microphones (children can stand at the front and pass a microphone in addition to the pulpit); Masking tape lines, arrows and X's on the carpet where you want children to walk and stand; Have younger classes do "question and answer" type presentations (the teacher asks a question, the kids give one word answers); Have the piano play softly behind some of the children's presentations.

This will be my 6th primary program, I've done 2 as a teacher and 3 as Primary President. And here is one of the most important things I've learned. Are you ready? Primary Programs aren't that important. Yes, you heard me. The Program isn't important. What IS important is the months of practicing where the songs and their messages are imprinted on the hearts and minds of the children. The Program is just icing on the cake.

Only a couple rehearsals are needed. Maybe one during Sharing Time/Singing Time, maybe an hour rehearsal on a Saturday(or Friday after school) and that's all. Please don't force your children to sit through 2-3 hour long rehearsals. I've heard of wards that have 2 or 3 after school rehearsals in addition to Sunday rehearsals. This is way to much and will only teach your children that singing and programs are boring. Just do enough rehearsing so that your children generally know what to do and where to go so that they are not too nervous. The Program always works out, is always wonderful, because of the spirit that the children bring. Even if there is a big mistake, the congregation will smile and think it's adorable.

So please don't be nervous and worry about the program too much. The kids will do great and the spirit will do the rest.
