I wonder if you have stuff that comes up running in the background. You
might try using the Windows Task Manager to see what and all is running on
your computer as part of the start up process. Processes that automatically
come up and update themselves, such as Virus protection software, can be a
real drag on your resources until they finish.
In any case, what you want to do is install BIAB on your local disk and put
your song files on your portable disk. If you are using non-standard styles
you create yourself, keep a copy on both disks and when you switch to a
different machine just do a mass copy of the styles from your portable drive
onto your local disk drive. If you aren't using any non-standard files
then you don't have to worry.
The point is that BIAB will run just fine on your local disk using song
files on your portable disk.
