Scout the archives of the group, and the primary song leader blogs for lots of fun ideas. It might help us to know what your standard techniques and games are so we know where to point you and what to share to give you some new ideas.
We just played "Word King" in our primary yesterday where you don't sing a particular word during the song. I normally bring a crown for the child to wear and tack a word strip to it, but I forgot to bring it. So I had the child stand in front of the chalkboard and drew a crown over their head and wrote the word there. Both jrs and srs loved it and were begging for their turns. We were able to review songs quite a few times to get the bugs out with the children enjoying every minute. It's important to remember, though, that kids LOVE routines and even when we get bored and start feeling like we're doing the same old thing, they thrive on it.On Sun, Oct 9, 2011 at 1:41 PM, Abby Wilson <goingfullhippie@gmail.com> wrote:Hi! I'm Abby. I've been the chorister of our ward in Provo, UT for about 8 months now. I am a musical person, and I'm crafty so this is a good way for the two to mesh.
We have a medium sized primary, especially for the area. About 50 in junior and 25 in senior. I do not do music time in the nursery which has close to 40 kids, I do not envy those brave souls.
When I was first called I had a million ideas and was so excited, but now I've kind of used all that and I feel like I'm just doing the same flip chart/memory game/ wiggle songs over and over and over. I don't think the kids notice, but somewhere inside of me I feel that I can't do the same thing just for different songs.
Our program is in a couple weeks, so right now we are reviewing, and I need to keep coming up with new review ideas. The kids are doing well with it if not overly enthusiastic.
I'm really excited to be here to hear ideas and encouragement!
