I have also been using this technique as outlined by the original poster. I've been calling it "Learning through Movement".
Today, since we have learned the actions pretty well, I introduced a Stop/Go sign. Stop: Sing only without actions, Go: Sing with actions. I started really easy, singing several lines before turning the sign.
I'm planning on playing the stop/Go game a little each week to try help the kids transition from the movements to just standing and singing.
Overall, for Jr. Primary I think this method has worked really well. I haven't spent a lot of time on words and meanings and all that, just singing moving and repeating.
