oh, sorry, Hello Friends is what I meant (not Welcome Friends) and is the one we alternate with Hello Song, and it's not our favorite either. I think the kids only sing it because we expect them to, not because they like to. I wish we only had to do it in Jr.!

I'm glad Catherine mentioned We Welcome You on page 256 because that is the one I taught my Primary when I got sick, sick, sick of singing Hello, Hello. And I did just what she suggested, which is teaching the first part of the song that ends with "We're happy that you came, too." It's the perfect length, and is my new favorite. I didn't even spend time teaching it. I sang it for them the first time we did it, and then held up the words the first 6 or so times that we sang the song. Then I stopped giving them the words and they knew it. I also recently taught them a third song but the senior primary doesn't like it. It is pretty juvenile sounding, so I can't blame them. I can't remember what the page is but it goes, "Hello friends, it's nice to be here with you in Primary. I'll help you and you help me. We'll be happy as can be."
I also do not incorporate lesson topics/songs into my planning. Once in a while I will have a teacher invite me to their class to help with a song, especially if they are not musically inclined themselves. The only thing I try to incorporate is the sharing time topics and I make those my opening/closing songs, and extra songs for singing time activities when we are not learning a program song (monthly review games, for example). When I am sitting there during sharing time, I will look ahead to weekly sharing time topics and list possible song choices in the margins, then plan out about a month in advance. I'm with Catherine, though, on the singing time plans. Those are so fluid because I never know how much time I'm going to get, how quickly the children will learn, how much attention they will give me, etc. So I write down what I hope to get accomplished each week and go from there as needed.
