They are a little loud (quick pop) and smokey, but not a huge problem. I am in Arizona so we don't open the door in July, but you could open an outside door if you have one.
I had so many of the teachers and presidency ask me how I did it at the end.

Thanks for the reminder! The kids loved the poppers last year. What I did was buy the the small poppers with the circle pieces of cardboard on the top. Then I rolled up a piece of paper with the song on it and tucked it in. I carefully put the cardboard paper back in place. The kids pulled the popper and all the stuff flew out including the song.
