0 [primusic] Re: Piano duet music

For our last program, we had a few children play from a simplified primary song book. The kids basically used two hands to play the melody and an adult accompanied them. They didn't play while kids sang, (they played while classes filed to the microphone), that way there wasn't the stress to play the exact tempo without any breaks. It was not like a "recital" so I don't think it deviated from the handbook. It helped maintain reverence as kids came to the microphone. And it was a great confidence building experience for those kids without putting them under too much stress. Accompanying singers can be stressful! If you get off tempo, the kids follow the piano and you can end up with a big mess. One child who played that type of "duet" several years ago (my daughter) was able for her last two programs in Primary to play the new song the kids learned from the Sharing Time outline. I think having played earlier gave her confidence when her playing assignment was much more difficult.
