We have used the Helium balloon and it worked really well. I had a big bright one with a smily face. I also used it during the program. I had someone sit on the very back row so no one was behind them. They raised it if they could be heard and pulled it down if they weren't singing loud enough.
We also have a Saturday practice. We go through the entire program a couple of times then have pizza and veggies afterwards.
They usually are ok with the practices because they are sitting, standing, sitting etc.

Subject: [primusic] Fun ideas for the CSMP practices
I wondered if anyone has any ideas for keeping children going during those long practices. We practice the 2 weeks before the program and need something different to keep their interest. Anything you've done in the past that has worked? Some one said they have a Saturday practice too, do many of you do that? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE IDEAS!!!
