Hi Jerry,
Biab makes serious use of whatever hardware you have - ie
Memory, hard disk, processor etc : compared to say a text editor.
So when you instal biab, you make best use of the hardware,
BY installing it in C: ( ie the first hard disk).
I use c:\bb
Biab also uses a hundred or so sub-directories, so installing it
on a portable hard drive which will eg show up as E: unnecessarily
extends the pc's search paths etc
I've installed biab on a win7 pc,
A second pc running WinXpPro, and
Wife's laptop running WinXpPro
The Biab song files i work with are in or under c:\bb\ian\songs...._etc
I copy latest song files around under c:\bb\ian\songs...._etc
using file dates & usb 8GB memory sticks -ie between the pc's.
You could similarly instal biab on all machines & use c:\bb\jerry
on each machine for work/play AND/OR use your external hard disk
To copy files to c:\bb\jerry before you start working with biab.
The other thing [ re performance ::: Anti stutter ] is to monitor
what "processes" are running with task monitor, use defrag,
empty recycle bin, etc

I seem to have an endless headache with my portable hard drive version
of BIAB 2011. I phoned BIAB six months ago about the ongoing "not
registered" message and was told simply to install my
registered/purchased version of Forte on the computers I use, a laptop
when I travel, and a PC at home, ande the program would run fine.
It isn't true, however, for two reasons. One , it constantly gives me
the "expiration message" and doesn't recognize in an ongoing way that
the registered copy is installed on the host computer.
The second problem is more difficult. It 'stutters," that is Forte Dxi
will not play smoothly and it appears if the program on the "portable
disk" makes a call, it cannot keep up.
I do like the Forte sound as more true/realistic and so on but it is
hopeless when it can't even play 5 bars without the stutter. Is this a
PG Music problem with BIAB, a Coyote problem with its Dxi, or just me
with the portable drive which PG made so attractive `to me in my
situation? Thanks for any further advice..
