0 Re: [Piano_Files] Writing Sheet Music

There are several free programs if you use the Windows environment.  If you prefer the command line I use a set of programs with abc text files (transcribing tunes into a text format) at its core.  There is also a Windows program that wraps itself around those command line programs.  Everything is free.  The abc programs create postscript files, the postscript reader converts those to a pdf format and an abc2midi (abc to midi) program creates a midi file of your music so you can play along.

Hello all,
I recently started transcribing my own sheet music but I was wondering what the best (and preferably free) sheet music writing program is for the computer.

Also, I don't really understand what MIDI is...? Do they sell sheet music?

Much thanks,

Sonny

Hi

Midi "Musical Instrumental Digital Interface" protocol for musical instruments to "talk" to each other.  I'd probably do some reading.  The article on WIKI isn't bad - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIDI

I'm not using a PC for notation (still use NOTATOR on an antique ATARI).  A friend uses Sibelius and is impressed, but it's far from free.  If I'm not using NOTATOR, I use a 2B pencil.

0 Re: [primusic] I Love to See the Temple

Evelania,

Sorry I'm so late to post.  Most of the pictures I used came from the gospel art kit, or the primary pictures that are included with each years primary manuals.

I used this for the second verse only, since they already knew the first verse.

I love to see the temple (heart and temple)
I'll go inside some day (picture of celestial room, baptismal font, or sealing room) and (sun for day)
I'll covenant with my father (found a picture of a father baptizing his son)  (it's the only one I could find and told the kids that baptism was a covenant)
I'll promise to obey (used picture of child being reverent)
For the temple is a holy place (another picture of temple and then wrote out holy place on a separate paper)
Where we are sealed together (picture in gospel art kit of a couple in their wedding clothes outside of temple)
As a child of God, I learned this truth (picture of father blessing child, and child learning from primary teacher)
A family is forever (picture of family)

This is a brilliant idea!  I am using this to review for "If I Listen with My Heart" (they learned it in January).  I know the JP will eat this up and I don't see the SP getting bored with this either.  To be honest, I am getting excited myself.  :)  Thanks again.

My Junior Primary doesn't know this song well at all.  A few of them are familiar with it, and my Senior Primary is familiar with the melody, but jumble the words, so I'm planning to do the colored water/vinegar experiment.

I plan to have pictures to go along with the first verse in order on the chalk board.  For example for the first phrase, "I love to see the temple", I'll have a heart pasted on a green colored paper, and then next to it on a blue paper, I'll have a picture of a Temple, etc. for the whole song.  The pictures will all be put on different colored cardstocks that will correspond with the colors I'm using in the "experiment".

I will have 8 clear plastic cups two of them filled with vinegar and six filled with water.  I'll have eight plastic spoons already laid out with food coloring hiding under baking soda. Then one child will come up and pick a spoon and mix it into the cup.  It will turn a certain color and those are the pictures I'll take off the board and then we'll sing again.  Soon you won't have any pictures on the board and hopefully the kids will know the song by heart.

The two cups with vinegar will bubble/fizz.  I'll let them pick a favorite song or wiggle song, or I might even have them sing ILTSTT again but in a funny way (opera, robot, etc.).

I'm new to the calling, so maybe you have all done this one already.  I just have a hard time teaching the kids a new song without something that keeps their attention.  They seem to stop paying attention after we have sung it twice.

Hopefully this will work!

I did this with my kids and they asked about doing it over and over again for weeks.  My Stake Primary Presidency just happened to be visiting when I did this, and they told the other song leaders in the stake about the idea.  It is a ton of fun!

Thanks.
In Modern Jazz (96) there are 4 styles that trade fours on the B sub style.

I am just throwing this out as a suggestion.  I haven't done it. But could you some how have the words to the different phrases on some clothing such as shirt, tie, shoes, suit jacket, etc and have the clothes lieing around the room.  Then you could dress one of the kids in the clothes as they sang the phrase a certain number of times.  Or you could have a return or soon to be missionary come into primary and dress them.  Just some thoughts that came to me,

There are some styles which trade 8ths in the B section but right now I
can't recall their names. If you have the megapak version of BIAB you
probably have them. There are 4 bars with all the band playing then 4
bars of just drums and so on back and forth for all the B sections plus
any middle choruses if you have "Allow variation in middle choruses"
checked in the song settings dialog.

Or you can create your own by "unwrapping" the song into a single long
chorus and where you want the drums only to be playing use the Chord
settings to have the other instruments resting.
