0 [Band-in-a-Box] composing software

I haven't been as involved in making music as I would like, and I
hardly resurface on this list.

Following the discussion of RapidComposer, I'd like to contribute
this:

0) Thanks to D F Tweedle for bringing RapidComposer to my attention.

1) Yes, I think that RapidComposer is unique in this "morphing"
feature, but I'm not sure.
It sounds appealing, but I wonder if I would ever need to link musical
parts in such a "graphic" way.

2) There is other composing software (for Windows). These are the
programs that I have purchased, but there are more:
- The Palette, now freeware at <http://www.palette-mct.com/>,
software intended to assist one in composing, the classical way;
- ArtSong, <http://www.artsong.org/>, software that itself composes;
- LMusix, <http://www.artsong.org/>, which /may/ be "ArtSong Lite"
(it's new to me, haven't purchased it);
- ArtWonk, <http://algoart.com/>, which composes music and graphics;
- MusicWonk, <http://algoart.com/>, ArtWonk without the graphics.

3) The few times that I have lately used composing software (like
create a unique ringtone for my cell phone), I have used BiaB. :-)

4) I think that one may want to use different composing tools for
different purposes.
I often have an idea of the style and the chords for whatever, so it
then makes sense to have BiaB find a melody to it.
However, ArtWonk and MusicWonk may appeal if you're curious to have a
pattern develop.
I (rightly or not) trust ArtWonk to be my universal composing tool. If
it (after I have updated) shouldn't contain the approach featured in
LMusix, then I will buy that as well.
I may eventually use The Palette if I want to try my hand at composing
in the classical way, but so far I feel more like being
"pseudo-classical". ;-)

5a) Especially when interested in morphing, one might think of
morphing the instrument sound rather than the melody.
I'm thinking of certain synthesizer sounds and New Age types of music.

5b) These synthesizer sounds would revive recurring discussions here
about
- sequencers in hardware or software;
- how to use multiple soft synths with BiaB.
I think that there is no need to revive these. ;-)

Hope this helps those interested to make their choices.
