| We did the Buffalo chips activity to day too. It was so fun and the kids were SO REVERENT. This is a BIG plus because we have trouble with the youngest(my dd especially) being reverent in Singing Time. Last week I brought our stuffed Buffalo (Buffalo Bill) to Primary as a prop while singing our pioneer songs. I played it up and told the kids that I had to remember to take him home so he wouldn't "mess" all over the floor. Then I stuck him in the primary cupboard during the week. I made our buffalo chips out of chocolate play dough with paper on the bottom with the songs written on them. I brought a foil pie pan and a sand shovel pooper scooper for the kids to gather the chips in. Then at the very end of classes I went and told the kids the "mistake" I had made leaving Buffalo Bill at church and that he had made a big mess in the primary room. I told them to be careful walking in there so they didn't step in the mess. Some of them were afraid to go in at first but they sat down very carefully and after our opening I got out the pie pan and pooper scooper and explained the rules. I was looking for reverent children to help me clean up the mess. Boy did they work HARD to get a chance. They folded their arms and closed their eyes and sang the songs so well it was EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to chose anyone. Fortunately we have only 5 kids most weeks so there was plenty of turns taken. We sang Pioneer songs, "I Love To See The Temple" and "Scripture Power". I also have to tell you that they are learning ILTSTT so fast!!! We have a poster the pianist made and when we sing it I cover my mouth on some of the words and they have to remember what goes "in the blank" and sing it. They LOVE it! Last week it was especially good, we had no piano and had to sing acapella and they sang it without any mistakes several times. I wonder why they do better W/O the piano? I wish we could sing like that more often. |
