0 [primusic] Re: ideas for teaching latter-day prophets

We have used this idea from sugardoodle and the kids love it (and remember it!)
Kristina in AZ

(Idea by Shelly Nydegger) I just taught this song in our Primary last month. They loved learning the song with actions and picked up on it quickly. It was also nice to teach them something special about each prophet so it was more than just a name. I also put up pictures of the prophets so they could visually see each one. You might also put pictures of each action by the prophet, but it is not needed. I taught the first 5 prophets and actions. We went through it a few times and then added the next 5...and then the last 5. It is now one of their favorite songs.

Joseph Smith - hold hands like a book to represent the Book of Mormon (he translated the Book of Mormon)

Brigham Young - pretend you are driving a covered wagon with your hands (he brought the saints to the Salt Lake valley)

John Taylor - point to a pretend watch on your wrist (he was shot many times in Carthage jail, but was saved by his pocket watch)

Wilford Woodruff - pretend to blow trumpet (he dedicated the Salt Lake Temple)

Lorenzo Snow - make rain fall with your hands (he promised rain if the saints started to pay tithing)

Joseph F. Smith - pretend to Hula dance (he served in the Hawaiian Islands and fell in love with the people)

Heber J. Grant - pretend to hit a baseball (He was determined to play baseball and through hard work he made the team)

George A. Smith - pretend to shake a lot of hands (he made a promise "not to be an enemy to any living soul)

David O. McKay - make a big "O" above your head (he was told by his Patriarch that he has something to in this life besides playing marbles, the O represents a marble getting bigger)

Joseph Fielding Smith - blow a kiss after you say his name (he loved children)

Harold B. Lee - pretend to play the piano (he loved playing the piano and was good)

Spencer W. Kimball - pretend to milk a cow (worked hard on a farm, also blew up a pig's bladder to make a ball) The kids loved this story the best!

Ezra Taft Benson - make the scout sign (he loved scouts and was a great scout leader)

Howard W. Hunter -draw a big pretend heart with your hands (he was sweet and wanted everyone to treat each other better)

Gordon B. Hinckley - pretend you are an airplane (he flew all over the world to meet with members and build temples)

Thomas S. Monson - Draw a heart on your chest with your fingers (symbolizing he has a big heart and serves others)
