0 Re: [primusic] Visually impaired children

I used to have a blind boy in my ward (he's in young men's now).  I tried to bring hands on things regularly, like reach in a box and feel what is inside (marbles, spaghetti noodles, play dough, Feathers...), or sound things (like humming that song, or music instruments). I didn't gear my lesson to him every week, but every few weeks and when it was something he could do, I would pick him as a helper.  Just like giving turns to all the other kids (they don't get a turn every time). As far as I could tell, everyone enjoyed my lessons...it's always fun and exciting to do things when you can't see what is happening.  Just remember to use your other senses (besides sight)!  Good luck!

Does anyone in the group have a visually impaired child in your Primary? What do you do to accommodate them?

We recently had a little girl start attending our ward, and I'm trying to figure out what to do. She can see things if she holds them right up to her face, so today I printed out smaller copies of the pictures I was using for singing time so she could look at them (with the assistance of a teacher) and follow along. It seemed to help. I'm thinking holding other props, etc., would help too. But what about when we're doing actions or sign language, etc.? Any other ideas?

Thanks,
