0 Re: [Band-in-a-Box] Re: RapidComposer

List veteran Cliff Davies back channeled me with ... if I can reconstruct from memory the gist of his pithy comment ... "Composer, probably ... Rapid, hardly."

I think at present it is a fair comment.

Keep in mind that RapidComposer was
only first released in April 2010.

RapidComposer has a steep learning curve and a fair amount of kinks to iron out. And to this point in time deficient documentation. As I said, based upon the brilliance of the underlying concept, I've decided to go full speed ahead with the expectation that the developer ... who is accessible and very open to constructive criticism ... will develop this into a mature, 'user friendly' program.

There are reportedly plans for a youtube video with some feature highlights and 'getting started' tutorial.

I'll post the link when this becomes available and also when  v2.0 is released.

Someone asked for a music demo. RapidComposer doesn't immediately lend itself to a 'song' demo in the manner that BIAB does. It is not focused on 'styles' which can be slapped on a chord progression. It would be more like direct control over the underlying phrases BIAB uses to generate the style related basic band instrument lines of bass, piano and guitar, etc., from the BIAB Stylemaker  (I think that's what it's called?). So instead of adding all the data and probabilities into that BIAB function to save in a relatively fixed manner, you simply take the phrase itself and directly manipulate it in the program. What it does have is a very sophisticated harmony palette that you can use to develop progressions for any style you choose to develop your phrase or phrases in. In other words, the style evolves from the type of chord progressions and instrumentation you develop.

So, in a sense a 'song demo' would be no different than a 'demo' of creating a song in Cubase or any other DAW.

But if anyone wants to send me a 2 or 4 bar midi phrase composed in a single key with chords, arps, little melody, or whatever in the passage ... I'll make a 16 bar composition using only manipulation of that phrase from RapidComposer and mix it down to an MP3, then post them both anywhere I can upload a rar file. That would give you a good idea of what the program can do with a phrase.

In the meantime, anyone can play with the demo ... which pretty much does everything but save a project or export a complete midi file. In fact, as far as working with it goes it does save the project you are working on in the demo ... since it will reappear the next time you open it, exactly where you left off.
