0 Re: [Band-in-a-Box] Re: VSTi vs DXi vs Roland VSC - REVISED AGAIN

Everyone's tastes are different - as is their equipment. In the end it
is a combination of how you perceive what comes out of the speaker. (or
headphones).

As an aid to this discussion, I have rendered three different synths
using Band In A Box. I rendered a single chorus of 'The In Crowd' using
events generated by BIAB. As you are aware, each time you press the play
button, BIAB will generate an almost unique chorus, so each rendering is
not identical. However, I merely loaded a different synth and used the
same file without tweaks or changes. So almost the only difference is
the synth that was used. Each rendering has been normalized to standard
levels.

1. Edirol VSC DXi - first chorus
2. Roland TTS-1 DXi - second chorus
3. Cakewalk sfz VSTi - 3rd chorus

Note the sfz VST synth is able to load any soundfont, so there can be
wide variations in rendered productions. In this example, I used the
ProVitamin GM soundfont which I think is nearly the best GM soundfont
set available. Soundfonts are also modifiable and you can also assemble
unique GM soundfont sets.

As a bonus to illustrate that a more substantial recording can be made
using a DAW, I added a 4th chorus that has been rendered in a DAW. This
file used the exact same midi events generated by BIAB, but I was able
to utilize 5 separate synths and of course select patches of my own
choosing. Instruments can be more clearly recorded.

The result was assembled to an MP3 file - which can be downloaded from
the link below.
